Is anyone growing citrus in Bulgaria?

Im moving to near Stara Zagora in Bulgaria and planning on citrus for over there, i know it will grow under cover in the winter and i probablyu will have it with a glass cover over but im wondering how necessary it is

I have just found out that there are at least 2 areas in Bulgaria Primorsko and Struma valley that citrus grows outside and also wild lemons?

It seems very variable area on area, i have been told there are a few other places around that have citrus outdoors as well as `wild lemons`?

The area we have a house in is very hot in summer around 30C, and and an average low of about -1C in December and January, but has been known to drop lower , last year it was -5C some of the time but there have been very low temperatures here and there where i know cover would be necessary.

'Wild Lemons' are probably Poncirus trifoliata, which are hardy to at least -15C and not representative of any other true citrus.
I doubt you can grow citrus outside in bulgaria without very considerable winter protection. An average of -1C for December is very much lower than UK, and if you happen to get a blast of Siberian winds it will get much colder. I had a quick look at average minimum temperatures for Stara Zagora. They are below freezing for December, January and February.
Invest in a heated greenhouse!

Apparently Bulgaria is a zone eventhough it is right on top of Greece and turkey. Comparing the allround year temperature with mine (which is Belgium, zone Cool I found out that the temperatures here were much lower then in Bulgaria. Here is froze -6°C for weeks and the temp stayed below zero for a very long time.

I can't see any trouble growing citrus in Bulgaria. I managed to get my citrus through the winter by putting it in the garage.

I wonder where they get the zone 5 for Bulgaria.

edit: some maps show Bulgaria as a zone 7...weird

I have now spoken a neighbour with a large lemon tree that he pulls under the barn from november and drops a cloth over for cold days/nights and says he has had it 30 years with no problems

I had a translator with me as we had been sorting some paperwork for the house so it was easier to speak to him as i cant speak Bulgarian

He says the wild lemons are not that common round here , but he knows of some here and there in sheltered forest clearings and he will show me some groups of trees another day, he said the wild ones have bad years with weather but survive ok , near greece they grow with no problems

I asked what type of lemon it was translated as a `ordinary lemon` and pointed at his tree and said his was the same `just a lemon` , it looked just like a thorny standard lemon tree, he makes jam from them and pickles the lemons and puts them in salad so they are edible
