What is the average size of a mature (fruiting size) citrus? Ive got a bunch of seedlings and I'm trying to get an idea of how much room ill have once they get larger. A picture would be great if someone has one. I'm sure there's variation in size, that's a given, but an average number would be cool.

I guess this varies greatly from variety to variety, since the node count differs greatly. A Key Lime would be pretty small, while a Grapefruit could be massive before it reached maturity.

I think if you list the varieties you are growing from seed, you can get a rough estimation per variety.

Below is a list of Citrus varieties that I have grown from seed to maturity. The height given is the height when the tree first begun to bloom. These trees were grown in a greenhouse in Colorado.

Container Clementine grown from seed - 5-foot (3.5 Years)
Container Key Lime grown from seed - 2-foot. ( 2 years 7 months)
Container Yuzu grown from seed - 4-foot. ( 3 years)
Container Thomasville Citrangequat - 4-foot. (3 years)

Grapefruit grown from seed in a residential residence, I doubt if you will ever get it to fruit.

I really doubt you will get a seedling grapefruit to produce in a container, unless your using 100 + gal containers.

Grapefruit roots pretty easily, so there is little need to grow one from seed if you can get your hands on a mature cutting.

Grapefruit embryos are almost 100% nucellar so trying to get a hybrid from a grapefruit seed will take a lot of trees grown from seed.

I have ~20 germinated seedlings about 4 months old from a Duncan.

How do I tell between Nucellar and Zygote?

There is a seed-grown grapefruit tree in my neighborhood that has fruit about 25 feet high in the air. I have a seed-grown grapefruit that is 10 years old and 22 feet tall...still waiting for first blooms (I doubt that its this year since there is some top branch die back due to the cold February).

Seed grown trees definitely seem to be more upright, tall, and leggy that the cutting trees or grafts that I have seen.

I had 120 grapefruit seedlings this winter and at least 20% of them were flowering at age of 6 month:

But this is completely different topic. Those are juvenile flowers and plants will not repeat flowering until maturity.

I have two six year old grapefruit from seed that are both fruiting with quite a bit of fruit this year. They are about 18 ft tall & the trunks are about the size of a coffee can.
