The Democratic National Convention (DNC) is going to be held in Denver in a couple weeks. The radio talk shows are full of people upset that the city is hosting the event. Between 60,000 to 100,000+ protesters are expected to demonstrate during the convention. Many people living in expensive lofts in downtown Denver, are really angry and scared for their property, and their person as they have to come and go through the mess. The Rocky Mountain News reported, that many residents are planning to leave the city during convention week. It is not the DNC in particular, many people of the city also would not want to host the Republican Convention. "These conventions draw every weirdo looking for a cause" is a common remark heard. The city has recruited extra police (paid by Denver) from many Colorado cities to back up the Denver Police force. Thank GOD, I live 36 miles east of the city. The mayor assures the population that every possible situation is well planned for, and it will be an historic event. The theme of the protesters is "Recreate 68", meaning recreate the 1968 Chicago riots. One group, expected to number 30,000 Anti War college student protesters calling themselves "Tent State" (after Kent State), is going to put tents up in City Park. The mayor said they cannot spent the night in the park and they will have to leave at dusk or the city will turn on the sprinklers. If the city goes through with the threat, watch out. According to past history, there is normally more destruction after Democratic Conventions than Republican Conventions. Keep you fingers crossed. Why Denver, why-oh-why bring them here - WHY? - Millet |

San Francisco or Los Angeles would be good locations, as well as NYC. They deserve it! Bad joke, sorry. _________________ Harvey |

We hosted the RNC here in San Diego back in the mid to late 90s. It was realtively calm, but San Diego is very conservative compared to the pinkos up north.
Locally though, the convention was overshadowed by one of the saddest events that had occured in my life. Three of the professors in my engineering department were gunned down by a grad student who had his thesis rejected a number of times. He was to give his dissertation once again, but instead he pulled out a pistol he had stashed earlier in the day and killed the teachers. The next semester I had class in the room facing the classroom where it happened. I don't think a day went by that semester where I didn't look at the window in that door as I walked out thinking that it looked like a tomb in there (shades were pulled and the room wasn't used that semester).

While I'm telling stories, I'll tell one of my last visit to Denver. I had a GIS (Geographic Information Systems) meeting that my company had put together from the offices around the country. I represented our Kansas City office, there were a couple from Nebraska, Arizona, and the Denver staff. The Nebraska guys seemed like they hadn't left the state before and were amazed by the city. We had driven by a park that the Denver staff said was notorious for having bizarre people frequent it. All of a sudden one of the guys yells out "Hey look, look, a FREAK!!" He then paused and said, "Ahhh . . . I saw one". We all got a chuckle because these guys appeared to be fairly naive. They may have been pulling our leg, but it was hard to tell if they were serious or not.

Republican National Convention will be in St. Paul Mn. They asked us to loan them 37 Milwaukee Police Officers during the convention. A lot of people here don't like being short of 37 cops, but the Chief says maybe they'll return the favor & the Government will pay for all - not Milwaukee Police Dept. _________________ Patty

The Democratic National Convention (DNC) started today, along with all the protesters, anarchists and other crazies each with a message. Front page of the paper shows an army of Police in full riot gear including face shields and night sticks. Today is day 4, meaning 4 days until the DNC is over and the Democrats leave, and the city can get back to normal. City leaders are patting themselves on their backs, but an huge portion of residents are upset that Denver was the "chosen" city. |

Maybe we can get China to take care of 'em. They seem to be able to get dissidents to vansih pretty quickly.

If not China, maybe they should have them all in D.C.!
I have a sister in St. Paul...wonder what she'll say about what's coming her way. _________________ Patty

Last night three crazy DNC protesters were arrested who police suspect of planning the assassination of obama. One jumped out of the sixth floor window of the hotel trying to escape. 3 more days to go before the DNC delegates finally get out of our town. - Millet |

Don't worry, the Democrats here in California just passed a medical assisted suicide bill. If it gets past the governor, I'm hoping the Democrats will practice it to the full extent of the law . . . there might not be a next DNC. Who knows the way the Republicans act half the time anymore they might be practicing also and there won't be a RNC either. A life without political ads . . . Utopia?

Good stories, Phillip. It reminds me of years ago, in college, when an Irish soccer team was visiting. My best friend piled them into her 1965 Barracuda to take them sightseeing (or to a disco, I guess). As they drove down the street, one of them yelled "Look! A black man!" and they all dove towards the windows. My friend said she'd never forget it, she was slouching down in the seat in embarrassment, the pedestrian was staring at the car, and multiple faces pressed against the windows of her car. _________________ Susan B
