Hello Citrusfriends,

I recently found 2 new photos of the Poncirus Polyandra, which is said to be a new species as an evergreen Poncirus, originated from Yunnan, China.

Unfortunatel there is not so many information about it.

Here are the photos

and

In addition to that I add a drawing which I received from a citrus friend

If one of you do have some relationship to china it would be extremely interesting to receive seed material.

May be a good alternativ to the ordenary Poncirus as it should be evergreen...

brgds

Andy,

Thanks for sharing this new photos of "this species"
Yes it would be nice if there were some seeds available. (looking forward Wink )

Are the fruits as horrible (eating)..Laughing as the "normal" poncirus fruits?

Best regards,
Erik (NL)

Mit freundlichen Grüßen Wink

I'm curious if polyandra is a primitive example or a stable hybrid with some other citrus. I've not seen any genetic testing of it yet.

Leaf isoenzyme analysis and work by Mabberley seem to indicate this is genetically different to Pt and to citranges.

This seems to be counter indicative for a hybrid origin despite it sounding intermediate between poncirus and citrus.

Not convinced we have the final answer when you add in the fact it was found as a single semi-wild tree with no fully wild stands known.

We need other genetic analysis rather than just the chloroplast genome done by Mabberley et al.

something new from Kunming on Poncirus polyandra?
There is a plant in the botanic garden of Darmstadt Germany and one in a private collection.
