These are my Flying Dragon seedlings started this past spring. (Thanks Ned!) They are nice and tall and have begun branching. Yep, that's my Sabal Palmettos sharing the space. Started them late winter 2007.

There are about four of these little guys, real shorties!

I tried to get a close-up to show the branching, but I'm so shaky (it ain't easy gettin' old) it may be hard to discern. Sorry for the poor quality.

Those are looking good. Interestingly, I planted some FD seed in June that I had collected in November, and stored in the frig, after dusting them with Captan. Looks like most of them are coming up.

Also, the Dwarf Namwah banana, that I have in the ground, has a bloom that should open in the next day or so. When it opens, I will post a picture.

Are the tiny FD's the true dwarfs?

I think the tiny FDs are what is called "rosette" type in the following paper. Rosette is apparently inherited separately from the "crooked twig and thorn" trait. So both sets of your seedlings (assuming the larger ones have crooked twigs and thorns) can be called true dwarfs.

Beware, this article is pretty dense with jargon. Kinda like a Flying Dragon hedge. Wink

Flying dragon can be very variable in growth habit.
