After tonight we are on the rise. High 60's - 70's for the next 10 days. We rarely get frost after the end of Feb. Lets hope winter is over as all of my citrus has flower buds coming on... _________________ Wal-Mart a great place to buy cheap plastic crap ! http://walmartwatch.com/ ...

I'm with you Lazz-- I'm tired of this cold (I can't imagine putting up with the kind of cold Patty and Joan have had).
We only have one day forecast for 70s out of the next 10--but lows after tonight will be in the 50's. It really surprises me that you guys are warmer than us so often. Our last frost date according to Univ of FL is around Feb 23-- I thought it was about a week earlier than that. _________________ Skeet

Skeeter I don't know why either. May have something to do with the Gulf stream being off shore. _________________ Wal-Mart a great place to buy cheap plastic crap ! http://walmartwatch.com/ ...

ItÂ’s looking good here also. I fell behind on my spray schedule but finished up yesterday. The Washington navel, Meyers and Hamlins are almost in full bloom ,so I will spray them later.
It is sure nice to have a few dry days.

We hit 86 degrees yesterday. It cooled off to 75 today with rain coming tomorrow. The sad thing is that the record cold that we had kill just about everything in my yard, so despite the decent weather, it's tough to enjoy the brown of the outdoors. Maybe I'm just spoiled living in San Diego. I guess the rest of the country has to deal with it every year.

We are s'posed to have our first day above freezing today (Mon) since beginning of Jan. My yard & deck is covered with 1-2 feet of snow. No sign of spring here except the days are getting longer. I can't wait to get out in hot sun & play in the dirt!
This was a rotten winter...arm/wrist is much better & still getting over a sprained back & bronchitis ---OUCH. Better to have it all now than when it warms up!
Skeet, I was surprised to see how cold your temps got there! _________________ Patty

Hi Patty, It really wasn't an extreme low for us-- it was just an uncommonly long cold spell. Our all time low is in the single digits --7 F I think back in 1990. That is the kind of cold where you have to bank all of your citrus and wait until they come back form the stumps. Our normal winter will have 2-3 cold spells that get into the 20's but that only last for a couple days and then it is back to highs in 60-70 range and lows in 40-50 range. We get about 1 out of 10 winters with no frost at all.
I hope you get some warm weather soon. _________________ Skeet

Before you get too confident that the cold weather has past, check this out. This is the historical lows for Beaufort County, SC. You can check out any place in the SE and find the same info. Take a look at April 2, 1940. Can you imagine a freeze like this today? Wow!

Once there go to the "Period of Record Daily Tables" and click on "Daily Summary Stats". |

Wow, yes it will be warmer here today, could be 41 by Wed. Patty, how did you sprain your back? Maybe its in a post I haven't gotten to yet. Sorry I have not been around, work has been hectic. I am excited as my limequat that I thought was a gonner is leafing out and I have new growth on a couple of others also. So far I have 7 baby Ponderosa lemons, got anxious about some other seeds I received and started poking around and there is life, (don't have a heat source under any of them so they are taking longer) and if I could just get rid of this Sciatica situation life would be grand. I bought a bag of key limes yesterday and am off to find seeds!! JustJoan _________________

Hey Lazz, That is the same minimum we have for our record low-- but we only have it down for Jan-- you have it for both Jan and Apr.
Nice link for looking at weather data in graphic form. _________________ Skeet

January 21, 1985 was a bad day for Beaufort and Charleston. We were 5 degrees and it looks like Lazz's present location was 6.
I suspect the reading for Beaufort, in 1940, was a recording error. Nearby locations don't seem to record comparable temps. I can attest to the one in 1985 though. |
