I've lost count on the number of forest fires currently burning in the Colorado mountains. It is either 12 or 15. So far, 257 homes have been burnt to the ground. One fire is nearing the US Air Force Academy. My daughter in-law and grandchildren live very near the Academy and they have been advised by the US Forest Service to start packing as they could be ordered to evacuate as early as tomorrow. I am 40 miles east of the nearest forest fire (Boulder, Colorado), but the smoke is so strong, it is hard to see the neighboring farm which is 1 mile to the west. The largest fire near Fort Collins, Colorado has now been burning for 10 days, and has consumed 90,000 acres of forest. After 10 days of constant burning the fire is only 45 percent contained. The one near the Academy is only 5% contained, and is nearing the far suburbs of Colorado Springs, where their are thousands of homes. The temperatures in the state have been in the 100 to 105F range for the last week, with strong winds. -Millet |

Up date, the fire in now on the Air Force property. 32,000 people in the area have been ordered to evacuate, as it is now beginning to burn home after home above the Academy. Earlier this evening, the fire was moving at the rate of 3 miles every 5 minutes due to the winds.

I wish we could send you our rain...We are having flash floods, mudslides, houses and cars being washed away and sad to say one death. I've never seen our river so high. Good thoughts and best wishes to you and your family, hope everyone stays safe. |

Thanks for the update Mr Millet!! I've been thinking about you with all the devastation in your state! I received a text of a picture of the mountains by Manitou Springs which shows how bad the fire is..
My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.

The fire near the US Air Force Academy burned its way into the residential area of the city of Colorado SAprings that night, and burnt 347 houses to the ground. That brings up a total of just over 600 homes burnt down to their foundations so far in the last two weeks by the various fires burning in Colorado. - Millet |

I am on the plains of Eastern Colorado, approximately 45 miles east of the mountains. You can look me up on Google Earth at 4770 Harback Road and 4512 Harback Road Bennett, CO 80102. The second house from the road (the one without the greenhouse) is the farm office, no one lives there it is just an office I live at the corner. The Google picture was taken during the winter. A lot of the ground you see is our farm. - Millet |

I'm praying for your family. With the fires we've had in San Diego, I've gone through similar circumstances twice. It's nerve racking to be the only one remaining in a neighborhood that everyone else has evacuated and to not be able to see where the fires are due to the amount of smoke in the air.
