electrical contractor here, not a crook though.

family member is a teacher at a school that I am renovating. Architects specified $6k in pendant lights that solely are for looks, seriously they serve no other purpose. Meanwhile family member has to buy a good portion of supplies out of pocket and the district says they cant hire any new teachers to make classes smaller. The district currently has about 10 million in contracts out right now with another 6-10 scheduled for next year some of which I am pricing so I see even more waste. Architects can be just as much crooks as anyone else, over specifying projects to make their 6% higher. I know the owners have to sign off on how a project looks but its the "behind the scenes" stuff they dont see and or understand that is ridiculous.
