Here are some pictures I took this morning of my satsuma grove after two epsiodes of 14F this past winter.. Some damage was done and some trees were lost but the prospects of some fruit this year are looking good!

Stan,

Did you observe any differences in damage as far as varieties, rootstock, etc, are concerned?

Ben tells me the Croxton grapefruit has recover nicely, but that it doesn't appear that it will have as much fruit as normal. As you know, it substained 14 degree freezes too.

Hey Ned, Some of the miyagawa satsumas seemed to take a hit worse than any of the others.. Not sure if miyagawa is slightly more tender or if it was because they were smaller, younger trees. On another note, a China 6 that I had obtained from Lee Sharp ( small tree also) took the freezes and is growing nicely. I had a China 9 on volk that has survived as well. Murcott also seems to be a very hardy citrus for me. The Louisiana mandarins that I got from the guy in DeRidder didnt fare nearly as well as the satsumas. Out of the two I planted in the grove, one is dead and the other severely damaged. This past winter was an interesting citrus proving ground for sure! Glad to hear the Croxton is thriving and surviving.. I have one of them in the grove also.
