I just got approval to order budwood from UCR CCPP online, and I'm wondering if anyone is planning on ordering? I see that you have a minimum order of 12 budwoods per variety, with a grand total of 36 budwoods. So, that sounds like you can pick 3 varieties, getting 12 budwoods per variety. I am wondering if there is someone else planning on ordering, and maybe? we could split the order, so we can all get more varieties and maybe 2 or 3 budwoods per variety? This will be my first attempt at propagating, and will probably need some help from CRFG in N. San Diego county, and I saw all the excellent tutorials on our forum - thank you! JoeReal, I know you've done this is the past (found an old GardenWeb post from 2005 from you.) So, any California members interested in pooling orders? I am planning on ordering Ugli and Xie Shan, and haven't decided on a 3rd variety, yet. And, I need to figure out what rootstock to order (probably? trifoliate) and from where. I will be putting up a little greenhouse (would love recommendations on a greenhouse, too) in the next month or two, so hopefully I'll have a nice place to put my grafted trees to take and grow. Any help would be very much appreciated from this forum's esteemed members Smile

I'm interested in going in on it with you. You probably won't be able to ship out of San Diego though as this is a quarantine area for citrus psyllid. I'm also interested in Xie Shan. I am especially interested in 88-2 and maybe Smith red valencia. I'd be willing to put in $ on the budwood.

I've heard that Ugli is more suited for tropics than our area but it's worth a try.

You should just buy a small tree from Home Depot and graft onto it.

Thanks, Chris. Maybe a few others in San Diego county will join in. Phillip, you interested? I'll check out your varieties. I have a Red Valencia, so that one's covered for me, but will check out the others.

Also interested in Xie Shan, but this will by my first time working with budwood so may need a bit of hand holding and being aware I'm a newbie.

1. HQ when do u need to place the order?
2. Would all budwood be shipped to you first and then you forward to us?
3. How can I pay you?
4. Anyone know where to get graftable size FD rootstock in SoCal?
5. Anyone have suggestions for 2 more varieties from the Early Release list?

Thanks.

Well, that makes two of us Smile Let's see if I can answer some of your questions:

1. HQ when do u need to place the order?

The next UCR CCPP budwood order deadline is June 09, 2011. Cutting begins June 13, 2011, and shipping begins June 20, 2011

2. Would all budwood be shipped to you first and then you forward to us?
Yes, unless you order directly yourself

3. How can I pay you?

I can total up your order, and estimate shipping to get you a total. You can pay me via Paypal, which is probably the easiest, and protects you (and me Smile )

4. Anyone know where to get graftable size FD rootstock in SoCal?

Check with California Citrus Source. I am ordering Rich 16-6 per their recommendation for my grafting. FD hasn't been as succssful with certain varieties, plus I'm planting mine in the ground. They told me today they are starting some FD seedlings from see this week, so by June they should be getting big enough to graft. Their web site is http://www.citrustreesource.com/products/seedlings/index.cfm?PID=2
