Based upon Millet's recommendations I have most of my citrus and non-citrus in RootMaker pots. I recently had to repot two of my Acacia Farnesianas, one of which was in a rootmaker pot and one which was not. The one which was not in the RootMaker pot essentially had one main root that circled round and round the pot. It was not well branched and hardly filled much of the pot at all. The one that was in the RootMaker pot had a very dense, symmetric, well branched root structure that filled the entire pot. There were absolutely no circling roots. I am always skeptical, but these things really work. Thanks for the suggestion.

brettay, glad they worked out for you. Rootmaker, is the best container one can presently purchase. Their Rootbuilder 100-ft. roll, can make root pruning containers up to 250-gallons. Rootmaker is the only containers I use. - Millet (1,259-)

I sure wish there was a retailer selling them in smaller quantities! I have a very small yard and can't possibly use a case of any of their products.

Hi all. I've actually read that if you have a light mix the roots will also branch, but with a heavy mix the roots move to the outside of the pot in search of oxygen and end up circling. I have just started growing in chc (thanks to Millet) so I don't personally know the results of a mix that light yet, but I would be interested to see the difference of a root system in a rootmaker w/ chc vs. a root system in a standard pot w/ chc. I'm sure the rootmaker plant would be more developed, but by how much?

Millet,

When you use the rolls to make the pots, what do you use for the bottom? Thanks.

The Root Maker Company makes a bottom base called a Root Trapper disk. It is a felt type material adhered onto a flexible black vinyl material. Root Trapper disks, themselves prune the bottom roots by trapping the root tips in the felt material. See link below. You can also use polyethylene sheeting, cut to whatever size you need, it works OK but, of course, you then lose the bottom root pruning advantage. - Millet (1,249-)
