I can not get ride of thes bugs! I have sprayed them every 2 weeks with volk for the last month and they just keep coming back. I also had a ton of spider mites but I believe they are gone ... at least for now. These bugs are black, they look almost like fruit flys and they stick to the back of the leaves and on the blosoms. They also leave these gray shavings on the leaves just below them and they multiple quickly. I also have these black bugs like fruit flys flying around my house every once in a while lately but I dont know if they are the same bug or not. the ones on the leaves dont seem to fly...or not mature enough to fly... |

Ilovecitrus, it has been a while since I have seen you on the forum. I know the exact bug you are writing about. I am also spraying for them, and keep on it every day. I have begun to hand carry a 1-quart spray bottle with UltraFine horticultural around with me to blast them when ever I see them. I have also sprayed the entire greenhouse with the big sprayer. They seem to show up every year about the 1st week in February, and disappear when the new flushes harden up. I agree with you, they multiply so fast that they are difficult to get 100 percent control. Nice hearing from you again. The Saint George area should be getting warmer by now. - Millet (689-) |

thanks millet it is nice to be back, all 8 of my citrus are still alive and doing well espicially with there recovery from the really hot summer here last year combine with my lazy watering skills. Do you know if i can buy ultrafine at home depot? Laaz can bayers advanced be bought at home depot? Is one better for the indoors or will I have to take them out side when i spray like i do with the volk? Its still to cold here to keep them outside it snowed here last sunday, but its starting to warm up.
I was very excited to see blossoms on my kifir lime i havnt had and for a year and a half, i noticed them when washing the bugs off with the hose. I also have blossoms on my 2 meyers, pink lemonade, page mandrain and other lime. so far the only one keeping fruit is the meyers and maybe the page.
Thanks everyone for your help. ( :

It has been a while since I purchased the Peters 25-5-15. I purchased 2 X 25-lb. bags the last time I was in Denver. I think it was $38.00 per bag. I don't know if UltraFine is still on the market, but Volk is just about the same thing. I see that Bayer's Complete Insect Killer is the insecticide Seven, so that should be quite safe to use on citrus. Ilovecitrus, is there much of a temperature difference between Hurricane and down at the low point of the I-15 bottom (near I-15 and the state line)? - Millet 688-) |

millet, yes there is a diffrence in temp from my house to the state line which is .. 35 minutes to the az border. there is enough of a diffrence that about 15 minutes out side of st george, there is a diffrent type of cactus that lives there that wont live in st george and even st george to hurricane is a couple of degrees diffrence. What i really want it to plant one of my citrus in the ground next to the house and find a way to protect it in the winter. There is a nursery in hurricane that has a naval organge tree in its unheated green house that does well... although it may not have made it this year along with tons of palm trees here. Do you have any ideas of how I could do this without having a green house? Roomer is that there is a huge myer lemon tree that is up against a building in st george but i dont see how it is living. |
