I have one branch of my tree having fruit like this:

The rest looks normal, nice cluster:

This is the first year for my tarocco tree to have several dozen fruit. The budwood came from the California budwood bureau and is a nucellar selection according to the budwood website. It took 5 years to fruit and has nasty thorns. I'll bud a few of Bream tarocco onto the top of my tree. It is on flying dragon and about 8 feet tall and 4 or 5 years old. The tree is bearing lightly and the fruits are as big as a navel sized orange rather than the usual smallish blood orange size. The last few years I've had a few fruit on the tarocco branch on another tree. The fruit are so late they never get any red color here in SE Texas. Oh well! Before I had my first fruit I Bream tarocco budwood as well, an improved tarocco. We shall see if that is any better. Taroco is supposed to be the best tasting blood orange for California. So far not the best color or taste here.

I've never seen an orange sport with such a strange surface. Looks a bit like Citrus hystrix. I wonder what the fruits are like internally. I'm sure those who like to collect unusual varieties would be interested in propagating this.

Sicily is the real home of blood oranges. Even there, the various varieties perform completely differently in locations just a few miles apart. The coloration is very much dependant on the daily temperature variations - especially the minimum overnight temperature.
