hello all.
first of all I can't seem to grow citrus in containers even though I keep trying. But I have a corner of my yard that had a lemon tree growing and was taken out and an ornamenta tree planted in its place. The lemon was planted probably 15 yrs ago and removed maybe 8 yrs ago. It keeps sprouting back. If I let it grow will it be a fertile tree or is it just root stock growing and won't produce fruit? It is so ironic that just a few feet away in containers I have trees barely growing and this thing is like a monster it just keeps trying to come back.

Hi Mario. If it was a grafted tree it is rootstock growing back. If you let it grow it will produce fruit, but probably nothing you would want to eat... Try grafting a few buds from your potted trees to it & you will have great fruit in a few years...

Welcome to the forum.

All the professionals were rookies when they started. There are excellent instructions on the internet. The University of Arizona has excellent detailed instructions on t-budding. The Texas A&M website has excelennt instructions (aggie Horticulture) on budding and grafting.

Well said Buddinman.

Mario, As I see it, this forum is about 80% rookies (self included) and the others are somewhere in between. That said, there is a lot collective knowledge here, and I am sure that, in time, you will find you have something to contribute.
