Has anyone used this fertilizer before? The phrase below is from their website. I am wondering why they say it shouldn't be used on containerized citrus. I have been using the Whitney Citrus & Avocado fertilizer, but it is a bit messy for indoor use and I'd like to switch. I last fed my container citrus in July when they were outdoors. I am open to suggestions as to a better way to go. Thanks! Stephanie

"Apply Miracle-Gro Shake 'n Feed Continuous Release Citrus, Avocado, Mango Plant Food every three months beginning in February.

Where Not to Use

Shake 'n Feed Continuous Release Plant Food should not be used to feed indoor or outdoor container plants."

Steph, I really don't know why that particular Miracle-Gro product cannot be used on indoor containers or house plants. Send Miracle-Gro an E-mail and ask. They do show another slow release fertilizer called "Miracle-Gro® Shake 'n Feed® Continuous Release Plant Food for Containers" which can be used both indoors and outdoors. However, I noticed that it DOES NOT contain any trace minerals, so you would have to add some STEM or other similar product, in addition to the 19-6-12 fertilizer. I have never been much of a fan for any of the Miracle-Grow products. I would much rather use Osmocote brand slow release fertilizers. Osmocote is a very high quality professional slow release fertilizer. Osmocote should be found most anywhere. Whatever you use be sure that you also supply trace minerals to your tree. Take care. - Millet

Thanks - I took your suggestion and emailed Miracle-Gro and this is their response:

"While Miracle-Gro Shake & Feed Citrus Avocado and Mango Plant Food can be used on all types of plants, it is not registered for use on container plants. The nitrogen can release too quickly to be safe for the confined root system of container plants. We are currently working on a slow-release plant food specifically for container use, but I have no information on when the product will be ready for sale."

You should be able to find Osmocote in 1-LB. jars at most nurseries, Home Depot. - Millet
