I'm looking at some of the budwood available from UCR CC PP this season, and see that they have a variety being offered in the early release section. It's an orange called California Rojo Orange. I absolutely cannot fiind any info on this orange. Anyone know about this variety?? I'd like to order budwood if it will grow in my area. We're kind of the "orange belt", so thinking I'm pretty safe with this, even if no one has any info on it.

It is believed to either be identical to Cara Cara or very close. I debated ordering some, but decided against it for now.

I do think it is odd that they would release it if it is so close to Cara Cara, so it may be worth checking out.

Thanks, Mark. I do think I'll check it out. I like Cara Cara, and maybe this version has a wee bit more citrus bite. The Cara Cara's I've had are very sub-acid and weren't overly flavorful. I did plant a Cara Cara in hopes that my own will be more flavorful.
