I'm looking for native Australian citrus seeds of the following species:
Microcitrus australasica - the finger lime
Microcitrus australis - the round lime
Microcitrus garrawayae - the Mt White lime
Microcitrus inodora - the Russell River lime
Microcitrus maideniana - Maiden's Australian wild lime
Eremocitrus glauca - the desert lime
Citrus gracilis .
I am just interested in the seeds for personal use, such as greenhouse or houseplants. Any help that can be offered is most apprciated,
Sincerely,
James. |

Jtoi, you have asked for some of the hardest seeds to find. Citrange possibly would know, as his web site is full of extremely good information on Austrailian citrus varieties. If he does not see your thread, you can contact him through this forum. - Millet |

Millet,
Thank you once again, I realize they are hard to get and was directed that I might be able to find some here if I was to find them anywhere. I will check out Citrange's page and see what else I can find and if I haven't heard a reply from him in a few weeks on this thread I'll give him a shout to see what light he can shed,
Sincerely,
James |

As mentioned elsewhere....Trade Winds is listing some A. citrus seeds. You can do a search for their website.... I have ordered/planted their seed off and on for several years...with mixed results/success. |

I have seen the listings but it seems like informational pages and not actual seed purchase, I have e-mailed them about weather they do or not; Thank you for your help,
Sincerely,

I just visited their site. They mentioned and apologized for their server being down for a while around Christamas time. They also state that they don't take phone orders. Their mailing address is: Trade Winds Fruit P.O. Box 232693 Encinitas, CA 92023. Here's the list of Australian seeds that I see listed this moring.
>Australian Finger Lime-Citrus australasica
>Australian Round Lime-Citrus australis
>Bignay-Antidesma bunius
>Blue Lilly Pilly-Syzygium oleosum
>Brush Cherry-Syzygium paniculatum
>Herbert River Cherry-Antidesma dallachyanum
>Java Plum-Syzygium cumini
>Lilly Pilly
Try one more search using: Tradewindsfruit.com
Good luck. ps: where are you located? |

I asked your location, hoping you were in the US. Several of us have Finger Limes in our collections. They are easily propagated by cuttings. A year ago I asked Trade Winds if they had Finger Lime seed, at that time they hadn't heard of them. Looks like they took the hint and found a source. Hang in there! |

Hi Joe. They list the varieties, but don't list the seeds as being available through them. |

To all involved in the seach for Australian seeds, or those that read my postings regarding the search....I apologize!! I suggested Trade Winds, but per Laaz it does seem that seeds ARE NOT available from them, at least at this time. They do have an information page listing Australian seeds and even a specific page about Finger Limes. I had seen that information in previous visits and assumed that they had them for sale. I must admit that I didn't proceed to the actual process of buying (or trying to buy) seeds. I have since e-mailed Trade Winds...asking what's up? I'll have some time this week to "beat the bushes"...so I'll see if I can come up with some answers. Again....my apologies for not researching it 100% before posting. |

I have found a source for:
Microcitrus australasica - the finger lime
Microcitrus australis - the round lime
Microcitrus garrawayae - the Mt White lime
Microcitrus inodora - the Russell River lime
Eremocitrus glauca - the desert lime
Microcitrus warburgiana - New Guinea Wild Lime
The only thing is that they are Open Pollinated and most likely will be of hybrid nature, especially the desert lime I'm told. They are from the USDA but you can also talk to the University of California at Riverside
and they may be able to help. The Desert lime doesn't bear fruit until summer so they cannot send fresh seed until then although they assured me that if they do send you seed from UoC@R they would harvest from their trees and clean the seeds to send and that the USDA stores their seeds. They do not have a lot of seeds to spare as they can only send a small amount I'm told, so at the moment I'm awaiting them to be sent but it's a good start; Maybe the best solution is to go to Australia and control pollenate, hope that's the correct term, the lime trees and try to get the seeds back into my country before they aren't usable? Thank you for all your help,
Sincerely,
James |
