I was reading last night a copy of Citrus Culture in Florida from 1922 which states the Villa Franca lemon was the most widely planted variety in the state until the big freeze of 1894 that essentially eliminated lemons as a commercial crop here. I've never seen a Villa Franca nor can I find a nursery anywhere in the state that claims to carry them. It does seem to still be grown in other areas of the world though. One source said it was preferred here in Florida over the Eureka which is now very common.
Anyone know anything about this variety?
I've got a Eureka and a Lisbon already and would like one of these as well if I could find one.
