I wrote to Dr. Richard Campbell regarding the fate of the white mango. Here's his reply! Smile

Yes we have caesia from both Bali and Borneo. They are small and not exactly thriving, but we are working on it.

Charles, I plan to prune my figs extensively to keep them relatively small and keep harvest easier. Have you seen any of Ken Love's fig pages? See this example from Japan: http://www.hawaiifruit.net/chibafigs/ichijiku.html

Thanks for that update. I hope they get it figured out where they will be easy to grow and produce.

You know I'm not sure...Just saying...it kinda looked like a little S&M going on with those poor figs. Laughing

Very interesting. Looks like a good bit of work though. It also underscores what I'm trying to figure out. Some figs grow very slow and probably could not work like that. You would need a vigorous fig to grow that much every year.

These are the figs I'm trying to find out the growth habits on. I am ready to plant them out and wanted to best suit their habits.

The area I'm planting figs in is odd shaped and I'll try to plant the slower figs next to the paths and the faster ones in the middle. Pruning will be a necessary thing I'm sure. My LSU Gold already thinks it should expand and take all my ground up. That is one agressive grower.

I posted on the fig forum and was surprised with the lack of replies.

Thanks for the tips.

I tried very hard to get that one and ended up with two plants and some cuttings. However I only succeeded in raising one to planting out size. The others looked great but then just died.

I believe that I will like the CDD. Everyone raves about them.

The others are supposed to be pretty good too.

Charles and Millet, when you refer to Col de Dame, are you referring to Col de Dame Blanc (the white/yellow fig)? The USDA repository at Davis has one of their accessions labeled simply Col de Dame. That is Col de Dame Blanc. Mine has grown well and I've rooted a couple more cuttings to expand my planting. I also have Col de Dame Noir. It's still small but has been fast to root and a good grower. I got a couple of cuttings of Col de Dame Gris (supposedly with the earliest ripening fruit of the three) but they died so I will have to try again.
