Ive been emailing back and forth with Dr Manners about the upcoming Expo in Wilmington, NC.. We pretty much have all the travel details worked out and now he is wondering what topics we "citraholics" would like for him to cover. Any of you have any ideas? I suggested he tackle the nutrient needs of citrus since the all time #1 question is: What do I do about yellowing, dropping leaves on my meyer lemon? LOL.... Some ideas folks? Help me out on this one!

I think it would be great to hear more about: new varieties under development that may be resistant to greening and canker; how long current spraying regimes can buy time for the industry; what management techniques may be useful for combating these problems; and finally - a forecast about what the industry will look like in the future. Some detail about the aproach the state of FL uses to map, monitor, and model future grove development would also be interesting.

I can certainly touch on Keith's suggestions, although I am not an expert on greening management. But I don't think that will take up the whole session. Are there other things, perhaps things more directly useful to you who don't grow citrus commercially in Florida, that you'd find interesting?

How about some basic citrus physiology -- triggering of flowering, acquisition of cold-hardiness, effects of various rootstocks? Or propagation technique?

What else?

Thanks for the ideas. I'm still very much up in the air about just what to emphasize.

thanks.

I can't attend, wish I could, but how about discussing how to hybridize citrus and how that all works?

Dr. Manners,
I don't think you could go wrong with:

That sounds like a great start! How about 'why baby fruits fall off'. Ferts & when not to fert. Growing in pots. And maybe open Q uestions the last 10 minutes or so.
Can't afford it but still contemplating going. Would love to see my buddies again & learn more. Smile Rolling Eyes
