Is it normal that my lemon has certain branches that grow strong and thick and other branches that are thinner and tend to bend towards the ground?!

I guess it is, but i would like to know your opinion...

Bye

Yes it is normal to do that. It depends on how much light some branches get how much sap a branch gets etc. At least the citrus trees I have do that. The branches with no/little light are long and thin.

Citrus have "water sprouts" that will grow very quickly. They are much larger and faster growing than the normal branches. They are great for using as budsticks or can be left on the tree as long as they are above the graft.

Thanks! Laaz, what you mentioned in Italy is called "succhione"...because it sucks a lot of energy from the plant (to suck = succhiare).

I noticed the the weaker branches also bend more towards the ground when it rains a lot...maybe something related to the water and the root system...?!

Ivan that is normal. You should see my trees when it rains especially the branches with fruit on them. The extra weight if the rain water will bend them down to the ground. Once they dry they lift back up.

What I do with the water sprouts is let them get to a certain height & then top them. This forces new growth below.
