My farm is located along the Sacramento River across from Rio Vista and our wayward humpback whales finally appear to be headed home. We have had Coast Guard and news helicopters flying around a lot, though most took the weekend off and that is when they finally made their move after hanging around here for anothher week. The traffic got crazy on Saturday and the cars were stopped on the highway in front of our house. Unfortunately, I was in the middle of irrigating and didn't get to the river until after they had passed. This photo was taken a short time later about 5 miles from our house:

Today, three days later, they are now 10 miles from reaching the Pacific!

It is a good example that we don't always know as much as we think. None of the herding efforts seemed to be an influence in their 80 mile return thus far.
