The above tsunami wave strength color chart was mostly 0 - 20 until it reached the location of the Japanese coast. Then it increased dramatically. - Millet |

Radoslav, nothing new there. The communist Russian new agency at that time never told the people the true news if the news was not beneficial to the USSR. After decades of false news broadcasts, I'm surprised you believed them. - Millet |

Millet, Radoslav says it was a joke of that time. It means they didn't believe it.

OK, thanks for the clarification, now that you pointed it out, I am surprised I did not realize the joke right off.
Further to Sylvain's earlier post here is the full text of Sylvain's above post about Dr. Kelvin Kemm.
.....Dr Kelvin Kemm is a Technology Strategy Consultant and runs his own company, Stratek, based in Pretoria, South Africa. He studied at Natal University where he gained a PhD in nuclear physics before working as a scientist at the Atomic Energy Corporation of South Africa. He subsequently moved into the field of the management of technology, and became involved in a variety of projects in many industrial sectors, giving him wide exposure to the technological and industrial base of society. In 1994, Dr Kemm was appointed to the International Board of Advisers of the Washington DC-based environment and technology lobby group, The Committee for a Constructive Tomorrow. In 1996, he became the first person from Africa to be appointed to the European Science and Environment Forum (ESEF), and was appointed to the ESEF Board in 1999. He is also a member of the British Institute of Nuclear Engineers. Dr Kemm has written a public interest book on technology entitled "Techtrak A Winding Path of South African Development". He also has his own weekly newspaper column in Engineering News, and has appeared widely on radio and TV. |

Of course we did not believe them, but our fault was, that we thought, that all what they said about US imperialism and another things about the West was exaggerated and pure propaganda. But after 20 years in "freedom" most people including me, realized that the truth about US, France and GB imperialism is much worser, than communists used to say.
And btw. about the Russian news agency - yes, you are right, but if I compare it to CNN, FOX, AP etc. I see no difference. Just brutal war mongering, imbecile propaganda about "bad dictators" and good "freedom fighters" in Kosovo, Libya, Syria, Iraq etc. on daily bases.
I am pretty sure, if we did not gave up at the 90´s we would face the same orchestrated war like Yugoslavia. I remember pretty well, like that piece of ..... called madeleine albright talked about Slovakia - called it "black hole" in the middle Europe, just because our government privatized big socialist companies by the own people - not international companies. But they later recognized the danger and let big US and western companies to step in. It was just pure imperialistic robbery, nothing else. Same we see today in Greece. And same was problem in Yugoslavia, or do you think that clinton bombed Belehrad, because of protection of "human rights" in Kosovo?!
But things are changing, for example in neighboring Czechia, they have election this month and according to what I hear from people there, we can expect big succes of czech communist party, because people are fed up with so called "democracy" aka robbery. |

Laaz, it's labeled "maximum wave amplitudes" and the color scale bar is in centimeters...maybe you grabbed the wrong pic? |

As i recall. immeadiately as the news of Fukushima broke, N scientists were interviewed on Tv /radio, telling us that this was only a minor event which would be easily contained etc.
That was because the reactors were of inherently safe design and so on.
So the situation escalated, as the backup systems failed.
N scientists,or more specifically N industry spokes people, now said the level of radiation would be minimal, only the equivalent of several X rays per year.
The radiation peaked in Tokyo, a couple of times. Only the wind taking the radiation towards the sea prevented greater exposure to the residents.
Foreign nationals in Japan were advised by their Govts to leave Japan if possible
The PM of Australia, Kevin Rudd, came out to say Australia should be fully briefed by Japan about the situation. The right wing here called him arrogant and presumptious for even getting involved.
As the situation at Fukushima changed, N experts seemed to come out a bit too quickly to reassure, then seemed to be off the mark when things changed again.
Really it seems to me that the N industry cannot bear to see any negative side of N power. They paint it in glowing terms ( pun intended ).
Imagine Dr Klemm or similar advising on when exactly to evacuate, when to safely return, what is safe to eat ? Would he be sufficiently cautious ?
His article is a too literal application of scientific facts to be workable on the ground, or as public policy in real situation. |
