I have jaboticaba and it doesn't get close to that big. The jaboticaba is like a very large grape and this plant has a size of like a red delicious apple. Thanks though for the try.

Is it a native tree, or is it a specimen planting ? Is it common around your area, or one of a kind ? Are the fruit ripe (falling) or way off ?
I think Cannonball tree, has fruit on a long stalk, ball and chain type effect.
Anybody think its Diospyros texana ?

It is a one of a kind in my area that I have seen. It is in ground and veery huge. I want to say that cannon ball hits it right on but you are correct Pag in that it doesn't grow on a ball and chain deal it grows straight on the tree. Let me look into that variety you speak of though.

I'm no expert, but it looks more like a calabash tree (Crescentia alata or Crescentia cujete).

I agree with calabash; flowers are wrong for cannonball.

Check out TopTropicals.com maybe it listed on their site or you could try to contact them. There are so many usual fruits you might find it listed.
