I came home from work today and found these little white bugs on my new blood orange tree. They are on a couple of my other plants but not nearly as many as are on my orange tree.

Anyone know what they are and what to do about them? I dont like to use chemicals if there is something organic that will work, but I will if there is no other choice.

I am really just getting started with any kind of gardening so any help will be appreciated.

Hard to tell from the fuzzy pic, but I would guess white flies if they appeared over night. I have used many products to fight these demons... Best I have found is Spectracide Triazicide Insect Killer Once & Done. I use the one that goes on the end of a hose. Spray the trees with it at dusk and really cover the tree well. The next day they will be history.

If they are white flies they will cause sooty mold from the honeydew they excrete.

sorry about the fuzzy pic... just took a quick few with my phone before it got dark.... and thanks for the info

I was thinking maybe whiteflies also after doing a little reading... any idea how fast these things can destroy your plants?

They multiply quickly. The sooty mold can really start to cover the leaves if you don't control them.
