Working fine with firefox. I haven't used IE in years, too many bugs with all of Microsofts software...
For anyone that wants the free Firefox browser get it here.

Lazz, can one down load, or should one down load, Firefox if the computer already has Symantec Antivirus on it? - Millet |

Millet,
There are other benefits to using FireFox. You can have more flexibility when it comes to settings of pop-ups, plug-ins, running ActiveX.
FireFox doesn't interfere with Norton Antivirus and other anti-virus software. firefox is not strictly an antivirus program either. It is simply a browser that can help minimize contraction of viruses by simply visiting contaminated sites. I love the way it handles annoying pop-ups by default.
Based on my experiences, Antiviruses are a real waste of money and never offered a lot of protection. The best protection is user discretion, and the next best thing to that are Software and Hardware Firewalls that are set up correctly. These can prevent zero day attacks of implanted viruses.
But Firefox is an excellent browser that is often patched more quickly than Internet Explorer.

Millet, Joe is correct it will not interfere with Norton. The first time you use it you will need to set Norton to allow connection from Firefox.
One thing I do not agree with Joe on is that Antivirus programs such as Norton are a waste of time. They are very effective if updated as required.
Now firewalls, both software & hardware related can easily be defeated if you know what your doing. Pretty much there is no such thing as security in computers, there are so many programs out there than can compromise any amount of security you may have. It may take a little time but...
WEP is a lost cause for wireless, I can intercept & access every wireless connection in my neighborhood. OCR has been proven to be defeated... I have quite a few OCR programs that actually "learn" to read the image files better with time... _________________ Wal-Mart a great place to buy cheap plastic crap ! http://walmartwatch.com/ ...

Laaz, my point of view about antivirus is that they are the single most inefficient form of protection nowadays. They are easily beaten by new breed of malicious programs. They consume the most bandwidth of program CPU's for little gain based on the evaluation of our needs. They can easily degrade the performance of servers when installed there. We protect our servers through some other means, like we practically encrypt each data packet with different sets of passwords and hashes, after all, we are service providers for financial institutions. Even if somebody did get in, they wouldn't know where our traffic is coming or going or how they are parsed and how to break them down and interpret. All servers and databases run in various places that cannot be tracked by implanting malicious software. Our software firewalls are proactive and we only allow strict access to only very specific programs on specific ports and range of IP addresses. Antiviruses in this case simply drains the CPU and wears out our hard drive while we dynamically generate each of the millions of web page requests from our disparate databases. For ordinary home users, the antiviruses may still be good to use especially if people are not technically oriented. |

Sometimes there is an image filter in your browser that wouldn't allow cross linking to other websites. During the last round of IE updates, it was changed so that the image doesn't cross link, and so the default forum up image is showing. There are ways to exempt it, for example, the citrus growers logo location is at http://home.comcast.net/~tkw_computers/logo_phpBB.gif
instead of the same website as citrus.forumup.org
you will have to allow images linked to http://home.comcast.net/~tkw_computers/ |
