Thanks Lazz, after reading your post I looked closer at the picture and than noticed the longer "cucumber" type of structure to the fruit. -I had just finished reading a red lime thread by Lorax on the UBC. - Millet (1,420-) |

Millet, I have spent a great deal of time as a botanist in Ecuador over the past 42 years, and I have never seen a red lime there. My Ecuadorian graduate student, also a botanist, thinks you probably mean the naranja agria, sour orange, which is often quite red. I brought one of my red limes in this morning, and she says this is not what they call naranja agria. I also asked my Colombian daughter-in-law (also a botanist) if she had ever seen this in Colombia and she said no.

tolumnia in FL there are two fruits called red limes. One I believe is really a sour mandarin and the other is probably a form of Rangpur . _________________ Wal-Mart a great place to buy cheap plastic crap ! http://walmartwatch.com/ ...

I have both a red lime and a Rangpur, at least that is what I bought over at Just Fruits in the panhandle. Only the one labeled red lime has fruited for me so far, the one pictured. Some people have liked the fruit, but I think it is fairly poor, although it makes good marmalade. I have a lot of other sour things that are better. |

Laaz,
Here is what Just Fruits says about their red and Rangpur limes
RANGPUR LIME Super cold hardy limes! Small, compact trees produce beautiful red-fleshed limes much like Key Limes in size and flavor. Self fertile. Zones 8B-10. $39.99 3 gal (3-4ft).
Sorry, not available at this time.

Yep, I thought that was pretty good also. The red lime that I have looks great, but the taste is not too much to my liking. It certainly is nothing like a key lime. The Rangpur is loaded with flower buds, so I hope to find out what it tastes like in a few months. |

Here is a pic of my red lime. The photos of the Rangpur are fuzzy and out of focus, so I'll re-do them tomorrow.
