Hi,

I wonder what is the best PH degree for Flying Dragon rootstock?

I know it is written that FD is sensitive to PH degrees above 7, but what is the best degree?

I remember I read FD likes more asidic soil.

I will grow FD in containers and I will use a substrate with these PH degrees;

pH value (CaCl2): approx. 5,2 - 6,0
pH value (H20): approx. 5,7 - 6,5

Is this ok?

Another question, say we have a rootstock happy in a PH 6 soil but the grafted variety likes PH 8.What will we do? Which one is important, rootstock or grafted?

Thanks,

It is the pH affect on the rootstock primarily, but then again it depends if the rootstock is able to get the nutrients needed by the grafted cultivar at those pH level.

Best pH ranged from 6 to 7, with very good at about 6.5, just slightly acidic. My soil pH is 8.5 to 8.7, so I only use acidifying fertilizers like ammonium sulfate and sometimes supplement with STEM and soil sulfur.

Thanks a lot JoeReal Smile I understand.

My soil PH is 7,5-8, so if I mix this asidic substrate(PH5,6-6) torf with my alkaline soil, will they balance each other or is it impossible to control PH with mixing materials?

Thanks,

Are you mixing acidifying amendments into the soil and your plant is inground? Or you mix them together and use them in containers?

I mix them together and use them in containers. I will follow Millet's advice in container mix, I will add CHC, substrate and sand but I will also add some soil, so maybe I can balance the PH.
