I finally have oranges on my Sanguinelli blood orange tree. When can I start picking them? They still feel pretty firm. Haven't got the red blush on the peel, but sometimes they don't.
I am in San Jose, Zone 9B. _________________ Lifespeed |

I picked one last week - it had turned red outside and I assumed that it was ready. But, it still was a little sour for my tastes though it was absolutely blood red inside. I suggest that you wait a few more weeks. |

Thanks, I thought it might be a little early. What variety do you have, Moro?
I am slightly surprised by the lack of external coloration on the oranges, but that has no effect on the taste. _________________ Lifespeed |

Too bad I can't find them here in Belgium anymore. They used to be available here many years ago. I loved them because of their dark red peel (and for their taste too of course ). The only blood oranges we still have here are Moro and sometimes also Tarocco, which taste great also. _________________ - Marc |

I think there are some different names between Europe and the USA. I have the Italian small blood orange, I have heard it called Sanguinelli and Sanguinella. At least, I hope that's what I have . . . _________________ Lifespeed |

I had some Moro blood oranges the other day, very tasty. From 7 fruit I only found 2 seeds, which I'm going to plant. Do they grow true to type? |

My Sanguinelli are quite sweet, and they are ripe now. |

Just tried another. Getting close, but still very tart and not quite ripe. A few more weeks.
Looks like they won't be ready until May. It has been a very cold spring here, however. _________________ Lifespeed |
