Hi,
Does anyone where I can purchase a Tavares Limequat via mailorder?
I have a Eustis Limequat but I'm looking for another variety.
Thanks _________________ Enjoy growing dwarf citrus indoors&outdoors. Currently learning to graft. |

By the way, there is some doubt that Tavares is actually a limequat. Genetic sequencing has suggested it may in fact be a lemonquat. From the shape, colour and flavour I think this is probably the case. I find no hint of lime in it. |

What is the purpose of this variety? Do you eat it fresh out of hand? |

I often get this sort of question - particularly from my wife.
I try and explain that not every plant, or every citrus variety, has a particular purpose. It just exists, and is interesting in its own right.
Tavares Limequat can be used to replace a lemon, although a lemon has a more lemony flavour.
If you can eat a lemon fresh out of hand (I can't!), then you could eat a Tavares.
Having Kumquat in its parentage it is probably a bit hardier than a lemon, and a bit hardier still compared to a lime. |
