Does anyone have experience planting citrus along fences? I'm looking to squeeze a tree to two into a narrow area between the house and a fence (~9 feet wide), and I'm wondering how close to the fence I can plant, without espaliering, without creating a really funky looking tree.
Thanks.

Maybe Ponkon or Fremont. Both upright growers or Owari very slow grower. Kumquats.

Kentucky Bourbon - It may not solve the problem but it helps to make it tolerable!

I have several trees up against a fence. Don't plant too close as the lack of air circulation will encourage pests on the side close to the fence. I would say at least 4 feet from the fence if possible. Also, remember that the tree is going to need plenty of sunlight.

Good luck!

Citrus need about six hours of sunlight to produce well. They are not as picky as many think. That is not my words but those of Citrus researchers.

Heh I was a nursery not long ago and not only did they tell me about 6 hours of light, they reminded me that citrus are an understory tree and do like filtered sun and not to get rid of all the pine trees I was planning on getting rid of.
