Gotta love it,
well after the president and congress spend enormous time and resources crafting the health care bill the courts have now struck down parts as unconstitutional. Sad really even what Obama thought was his greatest accomplishment is not turning out so good.
Not that anyone I met could figure out the mound of confusion that is the health care bill anyway.
http://www.cnn.com/2011/POLITICS/08/12/health.care.ruling/index.html?hpt=hp_bn6
I do find it strange how the reasoning of the courts was that:
". . . to compel Americans to purchase an expensive health insurance product they have elected not to buy, and to make them re-purchase that insurance product every month for their entire lives."
I mean isn't that a whole lot like how the gov't has required us to have car insurance. Granted there are some differences like not your whole life but it certainly a policy that is expensive and required every month and most of your life (if you drive which a great percentage do).
Hey I say we all band together and go buy some Pacific Island away from the US gov't so we can grow our citrus trees in peace.
We could call it Neuvo Citrusville. |

I said it was "a lot like" car insurance not 100% but you gotta admit there is some similarities. |

I was in Washington a while back. I did not bother to go see any of the monuments, the capitol building, state department, nor the white house. I did go to Arlington National Cemetery, and the Marine Corps monument. At Arlington Cemetery, I cut a 6 inch piece off of an Ivy plant that was growing there, which I rooted and added it to my Ivy collection. My Ivy collection is made up from ivies taken from famous places around the world, like Arlington, Geo. Washington's grave, Roosevelt's grave, etc.. Every plant is labeled naming where it came from. I chose ivy because it is a plant that seems to be planted at every place that I have been. - Millet (520-) |

I agree, who can initiate a vote of "no confidence". Probably just congress themselves . . . Seems to me there should be a way for the people to initiate a vote of no confidence. |

If you can forced to purchase health insurance, you can be forced to do pretty much anything. Bottom line, there simply no way one can say this is a free country if this law stands. Rest assured, if it does, this will only be the start. |

You don't have to purchase auto insurance in Texas if you post a rather large bond. |

Thanks Mr. Texas I forgot about that - State of WA also has a similar thing.
"Leave a certificate of deposit for at least $60,000 with the State Treasurers office or in a state of Washington bank account."
I've never known anyone that has done that. It kinda seems like you'd give them the money and it might end up being 'appropriated for state emergency' or some such. It also not clear if you leave it in a bank account and never have to touch it or ? |

The problem is that it doesn't matter who you put into office. This is something that a lot of people don't realize, but a sizable percentage of the people who make the government go are unelected and out of the spotlight -- they're the people who are staff for the elected officials, the people who work in the media, lobbyists, diplomats, big donors, people in think tanks, etc. They form the scaffold over which the politicians aren't much more than a facade.
If we got all new people in Washington, the problems would be even worse, because an inexperienced government would have to lean on this unelected scaffold more than an experienced government would.
I don't know how to fix what's wrong with our government, but I don't think voting someone new into office is gonna do it. I think it's going to have to be more fundamental than that. _________________ /l、

A balanced budget amendment would fix a lot. All the free money floating around for favors, encourages a lot of the crap we get. It wouldn't fix everything, but it would be a BIG improvement. |

Oh I don't know! Our founding fathers were inexperienced and they did a great job. It seems to me the scaffold is damaged so we just throw it out too. Start from the ground level.
Immediately cancel all foreign aid.
Recall all forces and secure the borders. If you need military aid AND you are a true ally then arrangements can be made that will not cost the US money.
Declare a two hundred mile territorial boundary around all coastlines.
Political post should not be a profitable venture. We'll pay your normal bills while you serve and thank you for your service when your short term limit is up.
Yeah I know Im a bit of a radical. What was that line from The Hunt for Red October? Something about a little revolution is a healthy thing ever now and then.
