I'm sad to say one of my citrus trees was a victim of vandals.. Periodically my place gets vandalized.. I installed a motion light on my front porch because of this.. unfortunately there is a spot on the porch that you can reach and not set off the light and the sensor is not moveable.. so I will just have to make sure that my plants do NOT go near that corner again..
I would have posted about this earlier but have not been able to lift the pot to get a good picture of it (left wrist is in a splint)..
My hubbies grapefruit tree was the victim.. someone poured something in the pot with the tree.. the death was almost instant.. one day limp leaves next day no leaves and the wood started turning yellowish.. and looked like this...

Before the sudden limp leaves it was fairly healthy and starting to put on new growth..
I have been unable to do anything with it due to my wrist... I have not noticed any unusual odor.. there are a few yellow spots in the grass on that side of the porch..
all of the other plants were healthy and happy when this dead twig and all the others were brought back in well before chilly weather set back in..

It is depressing for sure.. Sad

install camera. I've got really a good camera that I got on sale for $40. It has a built-in server and internet jack. Just connect this to your network hub and set up as an entry in your firewall and you can view it anywhere on other computers in the world where you have internet access. You can automatically let it record if it detects motion. I use it for scaring the birds though.

I'm interested. Where did you get the camera?

My of my plants (aloe) was vandalized last month. Someone cut off a branch and put it on my patio table, and ruined another branch. I have it for medicinal purposes, but who ever did it, did not use any of it, so it was not like they needed it. Sad thing too, it was a large branch. Also someone keeps dumping their furniture, appliances and other trashed items on the lot next door to me.

Thanks

WHAT POSSIBLE "HIGH" CAN SOMEONE GET FROM DOING STUFF LIKE THAT. I HAD A BEAUTIFUL JADE PLANT THAT I PUT OUT IN MY YARD SEVERAL YEARS BACK AND WAS THERE FOR SOMETIME IN A SHELTERED SPOT AND ONE NIGHT SOMEONE CAME ALONG AND SPRAY PAINTED IT, INSTANT DEATH, IT COULD NOT BREATHE. Crying or Very sad

Joe, you use it to scare away birds??

I think it might be the same that killed my pond full of fish a few yrs ago.. one day went out to feed them and all dozen were belly up. that was why the motion light was installed.. some of the fish I had had for 9+ yrs.. kids won them at a church carnival.. we were all heart broke over that.. I was mad about the fish that I paid $20 each for.. but they were replaceable and we had only had them a few months so not AS MUCH attachment..
It is cruel what kids can do.. though.. who I think has been doing these things is now in 20s.. but no proof.. I think a camera is in order..

The camera I got from Fry's electronics. It is a D-Link brand, a maker of internet camera. These are often used for C-U C-me type of video conferencing.

I have a computer at home which I leave on when harvest season is nigh. when I see birds in the camera from the office, I send code to my computer to play a wav file through the speaker which is piped outside, the wav file is the sound of a bird being eaten alive by a predator like Falcon or eagle. Works quite well. I would have used water spray but the extra moisture have brought diseases to my plants.

Plus I get to see my plants. I keep changing the IP address designation so it is hard to share this on the internet, and also for security reasons to see if someone else visits the yard. One of these days, I might give you access to the camera for viewing only.

The internet address can be fixed if you so chooses and have a domain register then proxy it there. But that is a big IT security risk to my home network, and that is why I keep dynamic IP address for the camera. But if you don't have financial data in your network, that is quite safe, a really professional hacker will tunnel through just to see your plants?

BabyBlue, that is terrible! I will never understand people who destroy things just for fun.

I have been considering moving to a townhouse instead of an apartment but I worry someone vandalizing (or just plain stealing) my plants. One of the advantages of gardening on a balcony is that malicious people cant get to your stuff.

I think you will like the camera. It has a program that you can install in your computer to automatically record unto MPEG file format once it detects motion. It support other formats as well. It can also send email to you once it detects something in the view. You can also have its indicator light turned off while it is recording or turned on even if it is not recording. Quite neat. The original price is $129, still very good bang for the buck, and the promo price was $40 after rebate. I wish to get more but it only limits one per household. I asked a friend to get the extra one and pay him back, but he used it himself for security purposes or spy on his kids while he's at work.

Joe:
Please post or email me for the brand name and model of this camera. It seems like it is a good buy. And where did you buy it.

Appalling.

I live in an appartment, but I'm on the first floor with stairs leading from my balconey to the lawn. Someone actually came up and stole my huge tomatoe plant. I couldn't believe someone would steal a tomatoe.

I went on a rampage. Since it's all apartments around here, chances were good i'd find it on someone's balconey. Two buildings over, third floor balconey It was there. I got it back from the very embarrassed tenant, trust me.
