Q: Will the seed from my store bought citrus ever produce a tree that bears fruit ?
A: Yes all citrus grown from seed will produce fruit if grown in the right enviroment. Be aware that a tree grown from seed can take up to 15 years or more to bear fruit.
Q: What is a fruit cocktail tree ?
A: A fruit cocktail (or fruit salad) tree is a tree with multiple varieties of citrus grafted to the same tree. (Orange, Lemon, Lime, etc...)
Q: What is the difference between Mono-Embryonic and Poly-
Embryonic ?
A: If the seed is polyembryonic it has many embryos and chances
are good that it will come true to type. If the seed is monoembryonic
there will be one embryo with two distinct cotyledons. More than likely
it will produce a hybrid.
Q: What is a Nucellar seedling ?
A: Nucellar embryony in citrus means that most embryos are
vegetative not zygotic. They are produced from nucellar tissue and are
therefore clones of the mother tree. One exception is C. Junos (Yuzu)
which is mono-embryonic, but also nucellar
Q: What is a Zygotic seedling ?
A: Zygotic is the fusion of a male (pollen) and female (egg)
sexual cell. Three citrus types produce mono-embryonic and therefore
zygotic seed
1. Temple tangelo
2. Clementine tangerine
3. Shaddock, Citrus grandis (pommelo)
Q: What is Parthenocarpy
