It has been a very mild winter. The lowest temperature this winter here so far is 44F back in December.
Winter darkness is begging to fade!
The sun is over 18.9 latitude south today and will rise to 17 latitude south on February 1 and 10 latitude south on February 22. I know everyone is sick of winter but brighter and longer days are coming. The extreme low sun angle period NOV 21 to JAN 20 is now over. |

headed for 70F today, 50's and 60's the next 10 days with the hardest freeze wednesday night of 25. Almost feels like I should bring stuff out of the greenhouse.
My trees are blooming and flushing leaves like crazy. I could get a couple dozen meyer lemons this year. that would be awesome for me.

That is crazy! Youre going to get the winds too. We started getting 20 mph winds yesterday with who knows what gusts. It tore up my greenhouse setup. _________________ Okay, I don't need any more trees. Look! Another tree for sale!!! |

Yeah Laaz thats like our oklahoma weather. I kid you not I have gone to work in a short sleeve shirt and left work driving home in snow. I have also had the reverse happen. We get the very extremes here usually all in one day. LOL
So do you worry or do any protecting with those low 30's predicted. If it wasnt for our predicted 25 wednesday night I would have moved everything out for the week.

Ah, Edmonton, Alberta, CA. That where my mum was born and raised. I was never able to complain about being cold in the winter as a kid, even when we lived in Vancouver, BC. She would just roll her eyes and say, "you want to talk about cold?" So glad my parents decided to immigrate to the USA, lol! We're having a weird cold night tonight, then lovely weather the rest of the week:
However, downside to this? Went to spray my stone fruit trees for their second to last spray for PLC. Looks like my Desert Delight Nectarine has decided to bloom one month + early, how bizarre:
Sigh. Will have some PLC, unavoidable here. Bummer. _________________ Patty S.

Thanks for the Edmonton post...makes me feel warmer. Today at noon we're supposed to break above freezing for the first time in 9 days. Our low was only -3F in this arctic session so I don't get to complain, but I'm looking forward to spring just the same. My passively heated sunroom has remained above freezing the entire time, but not by much. My citrus collection is just waiting it out in there in apparent dormancy.
Meanwhile down in the basement a 1000 citrus hybrid babies are growing happily not knowing that they'll be growing in ground and experiencing this kind of weather. Hope at least a few don't die |

Last year Spring came about a month early after a mild winter. This year seems to be going the same direction.
My normal USDA zone 7B has been solidly 9A for the last few years.
Fine by me. |
