Beno,
I live in Portland, Oregon. I brought my tree inside about 2 months ago. The first month I had massive leaves drop. I had x2 45w cfl 6500k for 12hrs/per day. My soil is +70f. I water every 3 weeks. But I spray foliage occasionally. But then I figure it out that I didn't have enough light. I decided to do an experiment with 24hr/day lighting for 3 weeks. As the result, the first day, the number of the leave drop stay about the same. (I think it because of the old leaves got trapped between the branches). Day 3, I got only about 2 leaves drop. Now 3 week after experiment started, I got about 1.5 inches of new flush. It still drop a leave or few every few days. It's still amazing. I think I am gonna back off the lighting for a bit to let the plant "rest" for a week. Gonna try another 3 weeks set of constant light. My tree is fukushu kumquat.
My Mandarin orange also got the same experiment and it got about 1" flush. I short cut it because scales killed 80% of the tree last year. This is a three years old tree. Since its height is low, I was using 18W cfl 6500k for the mandarin orange. |

A few pics to show how my tree is getting on recently. Its started growing slowly, mainly as the light is not so strong in Swityerland, especially in our apartment.
We move to Zurich next week and have a South East facing winter garden (balcony/conservatory combined, which should be nice and chilly, but very sunny in the winter. I think it should love the new environment.
I will keep the lights on, keep the soil 25-27C until the summer.

By summer time it should be back to full health I think. Lesson learned, even if you buy a tree from a garden centre, never presume they know what potting mix to use..............it now loves its orchid mix. If I ever manage to find some CHC here in Swityerland I will repot into that, in the mean time, it seems healthy. I guess salt levels will show once the leaves are fully grown. |

Hello again, it's been 7 months since my last post. The tree grew well for a while, then stopped.
It hasn't grown a single leaf for 6 months. The odd fruit comes and go's, and the tree appears to be trying to grow new shoots, but they only get to be a few mm's long, then die out.
Anyone have any ideas?
We moved house in December, the tree had a lovely spot south facing, heated roots over the winter and was watered well. I repotted into Orchid compost which is nice and course, couldn't find any CHC or anything like that.
I've moved it to partial shade now and turned the heat off, just to try something new.
I'm out of ideas |
