I just found this board. Earlier this year my wife and I bought a house with a 1/4 acre lot. The yard was completely barren, except for one Asian pear tree. That gave me the idea that it would be cool to always be able to find something to eat in my own yard.
Now, ten months later, I have a small orchard, complete with windmill and smudge pots ( for ambiance ) and soon will build a small barn. I've already planted 15 or 16 varieties of citrus, six varieties of apples, six varieties of pears, two varieties of walnuts, two varieties of peaches, two varieties of cherries, one variety of almonds, plus raspberries and grapes.
The citrus is, by far, my favorite and I'm looking forward to learning a lot from everybody here. Anyone else here in Ventura County?
