Hey all My neighbor just gave me 2 trees both dwarfs and cold Hardy ..
1 is a washington navel orange
the other is a nother Orange ( forgot what kind)

any way she got them 8 yrs ago as 2 yr old trees .
she had them in pots until this last summer when she planted them in ground ..No the soil is way too thick the reason she did so was i planted my lemons in ground but i knew enough to use lots of coconut bark and Perlite/pummis ?(Spelling) anyway she gave me the trees im trying to save them the trunk is green a few leaves should i replant in soil that is correct for them and Fertilize them OR should i plant them back in pots and not fertilize them? i have a few ideas here Joe real would be very hands as i still have a few Grafts of some oranges and the areas that are black are not all black so Joe advice here please can i graft onto the half dead branches taking off the full branch ?

id actually love to save them and give them back to her but she just planted new trees she doesnt want them back .. but i still want to save them Tammy

Tammy:

How are the two sick trees doing?
I hope they are showing some new leaves.
Did you put them in the ground or re-pot?

About all I can suggest is to not do any grafting
to the sick trees. Just as I would not use a scion
showing any signs of disease, I would not waste
my time grafting onto a branch that was turning
black.

As tony the tiger would say :"THERE DOING GREAT" ...OK im excited the roots on both trees where soggy i mean like mush so i awaited the answer as to what to do..

the washing ton navel is comming back and so is the sumatra .. new baby branches at least and above the graft so im really excited ..
I had them out of the ground in Bulap sacks so the sun wouldnt hurt them with pummis covering the roots the main root system is now hard as it should be some of the roots where so badly damaged i cut them also i believe air to the roots was also a problem those 2 trees do not have to worry about again .. So fruit Next yr ..

you would all love nancy her yard is Amazing its just so wonderfull i go over there for insperation and ideas this women knows how to garden Tammy

i have Not Cut the dead off and will be needing some advice for this ..
saving these trees was iffy and i tried something new..
If we had any chance saving them i knew it was to dry out the roots but how ?

Im scared to do this with out having the ends wrapped so that they dont get mold or infected ...

I really thought these trees where gonners but tried Something new and out of the norm Im happy it worked Tammy

YIPPY Laughing OKBoth of the 10 yr old trees are doing well no grafting .
I think that basically they where rotting threw the root system and needed time to dry out as well as Oxegene Starved ..

Right now the washington Navel has 3 blooms
the sumatra ( we think thats what it is ) has 1

im thinking about taking off the fruit blooms and letting it Branch out more.

so far so good .both trees are Cold Hardy thats about all i can hope for this Winter i will be bringing them Both indoors of into a heated GH. Tammy
