James Francis might have more citrus varities then California's Citrus King Gene Lester. I have not heard of many of the varieties that Mr. Francis grows.

All those and Fremont is the best, wow. very cool. I guess that makes sense, apparently that cultivar preforms best in TX desert areas. sounds like a fantastic collection.

Raspberry tangor is a cross of ruby blood orange with satsuma. It was done by a Houston citrus nut. It never gets sweet and is a loser.

I stopped by to see James again yesterday. We tasted a New Zealand lemonade fruit I grew from California budwood source thru Texas A&M and found it excellent, like regular lemon that is sweet. I have one more fruit and will wait a month or two to taste the final one.

I also gave him a couple sanguinelli blood orange fruit I grew with budwood from Texas budwood bureau.

He had given me a "sanguinelli" fruit that wasn't a blood orange. With such a large collection and most budwood coming from non -official sources a few varieties are likely to be mis-identified.

I have supplied him with several trees that I grew out from California budwood bureau sources like Valentine, lee x nova, lee x orlando, and new zealand lemonade.

He has many of them in the ground although most of the trees are not large.

Gene has over 200 different varieties at last count. Gene is a great guy & has shared many of his rare citrus with me. I believe he told me has close to 600 trees at last count.
