I put a bag of composted cow manure around each tree--actually I used the compost in the bag a couple times as a quick way to bank the trees when we had those cold spells.

I thought those cow manure is too hot for citrus and I thought you can only add a handful of them otherwise it will 'cook your tree?
So I guess you can add steer manure as much as you want for your banana plants?

Benny, those are composted cow manure, so it can be used. I also use that from time to time. I like the dark colored ones because it has a warming effect on the soil when exposed to the sun.
Fresh cow manure or the ones that were not properly composted, those can burn the roots of most plants, not only citruses.

So composted is not hot anymore so that a composted steer manure can be used in abundance on top of the soil and serve as heat preserver for instance banana plants?
By just how much is how much?
1" thick?
If t is then that is a cheap way of putting a 'blanket' around your banana plants so they can grow much faster?.
