Assuming my monitor's colors are correct, do I see a bit of bronzy or purplish pigment in the newer, expanding leaves, or are they purely green? If there is any purple or bronze, it is very likely a lemon. If so, there will be no petiole wing, and the full-size leaf will be huge, compared to oranges or mandarins.
The first picture posted has a bronzy look to me, on my computer.

I do know that its not a lemon. the pics are messed up. the leaves are all showing defiencies. pale green to yellow. the new growth is definatly a healthy light green.
the growth pattern is very different than my other trees. one big stem, leaves going up, no branches... then at the top a bunch of branchy new growth.
I tried to get new pics, but they aren't any better. guess I'll have to take it to my parents and see what they can do for a pic. Such a shame my digital is broke.
Kinda wondering if it could be a quat variety. He mentioned a cross then said I could have one. he said that to so many that I got quite confused. Time for me to try and call to see if he remembers. I thoughtit best to try here before bothering him. |

Take a pic of the newer growth & a pic of a whole leaf attached.
Where did you get this tree? _________________ Patty

I got the tree at a place near vancouver. more hobby greenhouse than the big guys. It was one he just was using to show me how to tell a few things then said I could have it. I know its not a key lime or limequat or meyer lemon or calamondin.
Just really tryuing to think back. I hate that I didn't use a pen to mark the containers. only way I know the lime is for the smell and the meyer by the blossoms... and of course... the limequat... its marked!.
I'll try getting a pic now of the whole leaf, where its attached and then the new growth.
Just be nice to know... just for future reference so I know what to buy or not buy in the future. really dont want too many of the same variety |

Betty, just taste a piece of leaf...chew on it. Is it lime, lemon, orange?
I'd go back to the place (bring plant) and ask him what it is. _________________ Patty

The greenhouse is a 16 hour round trip drive. worst comes to worst... I'd just wait the fruit out.
If I remember correctly it was a seedling but he did say it WAS mature. I dont know if a bearrs lime would be mature from seed by 3 ft tall... but I guess you never know. any suggestions there.
I did chew on a piece of 2 leaves. one new and one old. they both taste different. I do get a bit of lime oil like after taste though.
My guess for now.... it is a bearrs. I'm almost 90% sure... but its not the most educated guess |

Don't think it's a bearrs--there's no petiole. The leaves can't taste much different. The only diff is one's a old leaf & one's newer.
Does it have thorns? My bearrs has lots.
Try calling the guy you got it from _________________ Patty

It has BIG thorns. like 1 inch long much larger than my key lime
I'll have to call the greenhouse tomorrow unless someone can figure it out through my pitiful pics
my guess its either the bearrs lime like I think or a quat of some type. |

Bearss / Persian Limes are seedless... And the 1 in a thousand Bearss limes than contain a seed would not come true to type as Malcolm has stated before.
Key limes do get very large thorns when mature, but the bark looks to dark to be a Key.
Without a larger photo it is really hard to tell what you have. |

Ok... its not a bearrs then. and its not a key lime (I have one, very different look)
Maybe it IS going to be a Quat variety. mandriquat was a variety he seemed proud of. hmm...
Hpoefully it IS a mature tree and I'll get fruit sooner than later |

after insisting its not a lemon.... I'm really thinking it might be. tonight I had a leaf tasting. I tried the limequat (sure doesn't taste like a lime!) my key lime, my grapefruit my meyer and my unknown. well, the unknown is really staring t taste more lemon like.. I'm wondering if its a ponderosa. looking online at ponderosa leaves... I see a bit of a similarity. but... then again, I think most look alike. but.. I definatly have to admit to being wrong. I'm pretty sure it is a lemon |
