Little sweetie is a selection of owari. Harry of Bridge City, TX scrounged up an owari tree after the bad Christmas of 1989 freeze to 10F that killed all unprotected citrus trees in the Houston/Beaumont area. Trees were like hen's teeth at the time. So his tree is 20+ years old and makes fabulous fruit, best I've ever eaten.
I don't know if the tree still exists as he got flooded out by Hurricane Ike with several feet of salt water as he lives a short distance away from Lake Sabine. It must be the age of the tree as the one I planted with budwood from "little sweetie" doesn't make fabulous fruit at age 4 years, it is puffy and dry like other young satsumas.
Funny how Brazos citrus nursery now propagates "little sweetie" satsuma! I've heard it described as "very sweet with small fruit the size of clementines." Oh, brother what creative writing that is!
