In the spring and summer we get an extreme infestation of river moths. nasty little things that can get so thick you cant see through them. its pretty gross. immideatly covered when I step out on my deck. I only know them as river moths, doubt thats the true name.

Hoping theres something I can do prior to them getting bad this summer. They LOVE my citrus trees and tomato plants... and this year I will also be growing an apple, peach and cherry tree on the deck. Really worried that the moths will eat all they can. We have a bug zapper at night, but within an hour it gets so clogged we have to turn it off, clean it out... so more often that not, it cant be left on.

I had a few cases of leaf miner as well, not sure if its from these moths or others,

No clue what to do with these damn moths. just hoping to get the knowledge now, to help come this spring

It sounds like the gypsy moth. Gypsy moths use Cherry, Peach, and Apple as host trees for their young caterpillars. There isn't really anything that can be done to deter these pests short of keeping outdoor lights turned off. The moths are attracted to the light as it simulates the moon. I would also keep lights from windows at a minimum also as this would be an attractant.

they are only around during the day. at night they disapear

they are an extremly tiny months, I didn't think they were the months that did the whole leaf miner hting as I've only had one or 2 leaves, and these moths coat all my trees, so bad at times you can see no green.

Possibly it might be a type gnat? We have some large gnats that swarm during the day. Sometimes they are so thick they look like a thin sheet hanging in mid air.

Possibly, not sure though. They definatly look like a tiny month. prolly the size of a pinky fingernail. grey bodies with white wings

Whatever they are, I really want to cut back on the ammount of these things. Not sure if spraying the trees in winter (the outdoor trees) would help. I live right by a major river and we get a lot more bugs, but its getting worse and worse
