For those of you on the board who know Mr Sherwood Akin.. I recieved an email today telling me that his wife has passed away. Sherwood is in my opinion one of the pioneers in growing and promoting cold hardy citrus. The last time I talked with him, he told me that his wife was pretty much under his care since she developed Alzhimers some time back. Just wanted to let those of you who know him hear the news about his wife.

If there was a Hall Of Fame for cold hardy citrus growers, Sherwood Akin would surely be in it. Sherwood, himself must now be in his 80's. A couple years back he lost his hired man. Thanks, Stan for passing along the news. - Millet

I have had two memorable conversations with Mr. Akin and he is truly salt of the earth. He talks to you in a way that you feel that he has known you his whole life and goes out of his way to help.
He is a great person and I am sorry for his loss. Thanks Stan, for passing on the news.

I don't know what all varieties Sherwood has, he no longer publishes a list of all of them. I believe some varieties are a result of his own crosses. A citrus nursery, or hobbyist in the Southeast should obtain his rarer varieties before it is to late. Mr. Akin is up in age and will not be around long, especially as his wife has now passed on. - Millet
