As the watersprout limbs mature will they revert back to a round shape or will they always have the triangular shape?
I had some on a Meyer lemon and I think as they get bigger they are looking more round. _________________ Charles in Pensacola

All stems will eventually become round. |

In the case of true lemons and 'Tahiti' lime, and to a lesser extent 'Meyer', the great bulk of the canopy of the tree will eventually be made up of so-called "water sprouts," so they're not necessarily a bad thing. They just temporarily change the shape of the tree. |

Dr. Manners, your information on water sprouts is verification that is much appreciated. I keep water sprouts *IF* they occupy a bare space in the canopy. If a water sprout grows into a canopy space that is already occupied by another branch, then I cut it out. After a year or two the spouts bear fruit. Millet (375- ABO-) |

Dr. Manners,
Again thank you for expounding on the subject. One of my Meyer lemons developed a very nice shape this summer but is mostly "watersprouts" and if I needed to remove it I would have felt that most of my growth this year would be lost.
Thanks to the advice of Skeet, Laaz and Millet I chose to leave 90% of my Watersprouts and I am now more confident that it was the right decision. I'm also looking forward to next year knowing I have some bones for the plants to continue growing on. _________________ Charles in Pensacola
