Harley's 105 anniversary started officially yesterday. Bikers are here from all over the world. I live 2 blocks north of Brady Street - which is only 6 blocks long, & it is closed to all cars and loaded with bikes from today (Thurs) thru Sunday. Saturday will be a long parade to the lakefront -Summerfest Grounds. This year Bruce Springsteen will perform there. Tickets to be there are $60 -70.00.
At the 100th, price was about the same & if you remember, the SURPRISE guest was Elton John. I had a chance to be there (lakefront grounds) as I went sailing with friends & we had to go thru the grounds to get back home. Of course we stayed for a FREEBEE of what everyone thought would be Bruce, or Rolling Stones or whatever. When Elton came out, everyone starting leaving & booing. They opened gates to let ANYONE in. I felt sorry for Elton. Good thing he didn't sing "Tiny Dancer" LOL Some old guy picked him thinking it would go over well. Willie G didn't even know who the Surprise guest would be! Gay guy--not a good choice for a bunch of bikers LOL
I will post pics in few days as my fiance' will bring his Harley here & we will go to Brady street bike fest tomorrow.
There have been at least 2 bike accidents but no fatalities. I love that the sherrif & police are asking all to give all bikers right of way. Some get lost & change lanes quickly, so GET OUT OF THE WAY for them.
My oldest sisters' husband of 45 years finally bought a Harley he always wanted 5 years ago just before the 100th. He was riding it home from work when he got broad sided by a woman driver & got killed instantly. I still can't get over that one. He was a excellent driver too.
The streets & freeways here are loaded with bikes. Quite an event.
