Hi Laaz, very sorry about that.
There is something I don't understand. Most of us know how to graft. Why did he (or she) stole the tree and not only a twig?
Laaz, tell us what citrus it is. First it will be easier to look around for it, and then I'm sure someone on this forum will find a new one for you.

Laaz,
That's sad. To only take that one plant says a lot.
The person knows enough about citrus to know it's value. They would not be able to sell it easily. Most the people who would be interested in it are on the forum.
One possibility would be for there own personal collection. But This would be someone who has an extended collection.
When I was a teenager I did wood carving with 6 people each year at a local Trade School. My grandfather gave me a old Russel Barlow knife the kind with an arrow through the "R". They hadn't been made in many years and was a very collectible knife.
So, I took it to the Wood Carving class to show my friends my prize....by the end of the class the knife was no where to be found.

Sorry to hear about that.
I believe in karma and what this person did is inexcusable.
When people open their hands are hearts to help others and get repaid in this manner is low class.
Hope you can find out who did this. |

Laaz,
I am very sorry and shoked to hear about the loss of your tree. I agree with the others that the person who did this is the worst type of individual and hope that they get what is coming to them. I also hope along with others that this individual does not diminish your passion for citrus. You have been a great source of informaiton and I believe that good things will happen for you. |

Sad to hear. Unfortunately, I know the feeling. I hope it turns up somehow and the thief gets what he deserves. _________________ Skeet

I'm curious to know what the specific citrus was? Someone might be able to give you budwood. |

Laaz,
Having been the victim of theft of very personal items I can imagine your pain. Nothing but time can heal and it will not be 100%. Each incident hardens one and it does build up. I'm sorry you have to deal with this and I know that most everyone here would bend over backwards to catch this POS.
If you haven't already you need to start a chronological list (preferably an Excel spreadsheet) starting from when you acquired the tree. Hopefully it hasn't been in your care for too long. On this list you need to write the names of all who saw or knew about this tree and it's location. That would include who you bought it from and who delivered it if you didn't do it yourself. Everyone is suspect. No exceptions. At first you list will be spotty but as time goes by it will start to fill in. Leave room between entrys for others to be entered as you remember them. A computer is great for this as you can add a line anywhere. At some point in time you may feel comfortable eliminating suspects but you never take them off the list. Just make a column with a mark in it or color code them. You may want to assign a probability factor (1-5) to each person. Was the tree truely anonomous in your yard? Was the pot identifiable? Was it labeled? Could it be that the plant itself due to it's look drew attention to itself? There are many more questions that I could ask but this is enough and if you wish to talk about it you can PM me.
Lastly I hope you did file a police report. If you didn't you need to even if they say they can't help you. Tell them to just take the report that is what your tax dollars pay for.
At the very least you will be doing something better than brooding on it. _________________ Charles in Pensacola

I am sad to hear of this loss.
I can most assuredly say I know exactly how you feel. Someone visited my place in my absence and stole over $1200 worth of rare Japanese grafted maples, and other one of a kind trees and plants.
I later found them planted in a neighbor's yard one street over from me.
The police pretty much told me "tough luck" and went their way.
That is why I will never let anyone on my property again to look at my stuff. _________________ A small piece of land with fruit trees and a garden allows one to live as kings and queens in times of trouble. |

You are a better man than me because I would have to confront my neighbor or at least take my trees back by any means I could. |

The simple fact is, I'm not a guy, but a lady. The neighborhood where I live is rife with low-life types, I don't dare to say anything.
I might wake up with my house on fire or worse.
I am currently searching for land to get out to myself. _________________ A small piece of land with fruit trees and a garden allows one to live as kings and queens in times of trouble. |

Well..............
I'm one of those people who has been to your house, drooled all over your plants, and has been the thankful benifactor of your generosity.
I guess that the fact that I've not logged on to the site in a long time might seem suspicious. However..................
I'm not the culprit.
I consider you my friend, but even if I disliked you, stealing is against my moral code. I've got pieces of the stuff you gave me still hanging in there, and you are welcome to anything that I have. I hope you find out who it was. I hope that you will call me again. _________________ Peace, Love, and Citrus |

What a shame!
I've heard of this happening with other collectors- they show off their rarest plants to visitors and a little later they are stolen.
I too, would make a list of everyone who has been to your house and was told about the plant. Even neighbors, anyone you showed it off to.
Out of curiosity I'd like to know which one it was, too..
Keep an eye on ebay as well! _________________ Susan B

A good way to soften the pain of situations like this is to share what you have with others-- that's what I do. When I have something like that ---that is important to me ,I let my friends have some of it so if mine dies, gets stolen , a animal or a branch destroys it-- I can go to the folks I shared it with and get a piece back from them. Othewise it's a hard lesson learned (hopefully) |
