This bud was grafted almost two months ago..
I tried to scrape the bottom to see if there was any green under the brown but as you can see there is no green..
I'm trying to figure out if this graft is going to make it or not.. I did another one that did not take at all.. Not sure that the bud wood would be still viable or not but I know if it is time is running short...

Any ideas on if it is going to make it or not??

Gina that bud is still alive. If it was me I would cut the rootstock off about a inch above the bud & give it all the heat you can. Many times when the lower portion of the wood on the bud browns like that it will move up & rot the bud. Once you force the bud it should be fine.

Yup, looks like it is about to sprout. I have some productive grafts that started out like that.

This is one on an adult tree.. I was going to notch one quarter to half inch above the bud to force it in spring if they did not start sprouting on their own.. So I should notch it now??

As most of them are on other trees I don't want to cut down notching above the bud is the best way to force the buds yes??

I was thinking waiting till spring would give the buds plenty of time to get settled in to their new homes and maybe have a better chance?

Also.. I have been having great luck with getting the Swingle rootstock to root for me.. I know swingle is not dwarfing.. but as ALL of my trees have to live in pots Swingle vs. Flying Dragon is a mute point right??

Another question about root stock... they are Deciduous and loose their leaves in winter... but they should keep their leaves if kept at active growth temps right?? I have some that I had left outside when the temps got rather low that are dropping bunches of leaves.. since I brought them in they should start to recover and go back to active growth?? The ones I brought in before the cold snap are not showing any signs of winter.. no leaves turning colors or dropping..

Thanks for all the great advice and help!!!

Swingle is not deciduous, it keeps it's leaves all year.

A deciduous rootstock like Flying Dragon if left outside in the cold will loose it leaves. If kept in a warm greenhouse or a warm location in your home, it will many times retain some leaves though the winter. However, the short days and the lower indoor winter temperatures still has some effect on Flying Dragon. Many of the FD rootstock that I carry over languishes some what until spring. - Millet
