We have had an exceptionally cold winter here so far.. some nights been down to -15°C.. most of my trees have been in the greenhouse which is heated.. but it's still been very cold in there.. ice on the inside! Most of the trees are showing distress and yellowed leaves and the growing shoots have dried up and fallen off.

was wondering if they are dead but just hanging on.. or will they survive..

Richard

Sorry, no answers, just questions. I wish the best to your trees.
Do you know what was inside temperature during extreme events?
Are those trees left exposed to sun after that? And if so, what was max daytime temperature?

I don't know the temperature inside.. but it must have been below zero for the ice to be on the inside of the glass.. had the heater running solid for 5 days.. my oldest trees have suffered the most though, the smaller ones seem better.

The greenhouse sees morning sun only but it's been cloudy lots. Some days have not got above zero at all.

I guess that your trees have good chance to recover.

In my area from November through the end of February, the area freezes every night. On the colder nights I often have ice on the inside of the greenhouse covering. However, that does not mean that the greenhouse was at, nor near, freezing. In fact the greenhouse air stays at the preset nighttime temperature of 50F (13C). The greenhouse covering (glazing) itself could be at, or near the outside temperature. - Millet (745-)
