I was reading about all of the uses for GA3 and I ran into a link that said that improved germination rates were observed on other types of seeds when the seed was scarified (with sandpaper) and soaked in GA3 (Gibberellic Acid) for 24 hours. Anyone have any thoughts if this would have any benefits to citrus seed germination?

Thanks,
Phillip

Do the extra 100 mile effort only if your citrus seeds do not germinate or if you have one of a kind seed that you would like in your full capability to germinate them, ie. from your own hybridization efforts.

Otherwise, most citrus seeds, especially for rootstock purposes, I can easily live even if germintation rates go down to 20%, and if I buy by the kilos, I would have several hundred germinated seedlings to discard at that low rate.

Yes, but you're forgetting. We're all nuts on this forum and we treat our trees like children. Very Happy I want to make sure my seeds are getting their prenatal vitamins so they grow up to be big and strong. Smile

I knew you will do the extra effort! It is actually fun for me. Have done that with banana seeds too, because they are too rare to pass up.
